You are traveling to a land that has declared Peace on Earth.

Costa Rica has a long democratic tradition, and they speak proudly of their Switzerland of Central America; a country without an army. The variety of the scenery is amazing-- as various as the 3 million lively joyful people; half of whom live in and around the capital city of San Jose. They call themselves "Ticos", and they love meeting tourists, so you will feel right at home.

There are active volcanoes, wide virgin beaches, rain, cloud, and dry forests, coffee and banana plantations, and large cattle ranches, in addition to the natural flora and fascinating fauna. 25% of the land is national parks.

Guanacaste with its 10,140 square kilometers is the second largest of the seven provinces of CR. The capital city, Liberia, hosts the International Airport Daniel Oduber.

Besides Tourism, and the more recently added teak farming, the economy depends largely on its cattle industry of old. As you travel around you can see real cowboys, herds of cows milling around in the roads, see oxcarts, and attend the traditional fiestas with rodeos, marimba music, and local food, all a part of the oldest manifested traditions of the area.

It is also the driest of the provinces; the mean temperature is 28 C (80F) and it is rainless from December to June. When it does rain, the land springs to life, from dry and golden to an enormous variety of greens, and the brilliant colors of the flowering trees. There are also many kilometer-long beaches, often inaccessible to traffic due to the scarcity of good roads, making them isolated paradises.

Playa Junquillal is thirty-five kilometers East of Santa Cruz, the largest city in the area. It won the Blue Banner of the Institute of Tourism of Costa Rica, a measure of its pristine beauty.

The beach itself is four kilometers long and invites you to endless walks where you also can explore neighboring beaches. In the village there is a "Pulperia" (a convenience type market), and a variety of hotels, bars and restaurants where you can sample International or local cooking and any drink you might desire.
